Cristiano Ronaldo has hit back at his critics, explaining why he joined the Saudi Pro League despite claims that he is “finished” as a top-level player, according to Sportskeeda. In a promotional video for the new Netflix documentary “Saudi Pro League: Kick Off,” Ronaldo revealed his motivations for making the move to Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo, who left Manchester United in November 2022, chose to join Al-Nassr on a free transfer in January 2023. Despite winning one trophy, the Arab Champions Cup, with the Saudi Pro League side, Ronaldo has faced criticism from some quarters, with some suggesting that he is only in Saudi Arabia for the money.
However, Ronaldo has insisted that he is still motivated to win silverware and leave a lasting legacy in the Saudi Pro League. “I came here to win, to make the league better,” he said. “I want to leave a legacy. That’s what I want. They say I’m finished, that I’m only here for the money… I still feel the passion. They don’t believe it, but I’m here to win.”
Ronaldo’s comments are a clear response to his critics, who have questioned his decision to join Al-Nassr. The 39-year-old has been in impressive form for the Saudi Pro League side, scoring 74 goals and recording 18 assists in 85 games across all competitions.
Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia has been seen as a significant coup for the Saudi Pro League, which is looking to establish itself as a major force in world football. The league has attracted several high-profile players in recent years, including Ronaldo’s former teammate, Karim Benzema.
